A Year of Love: Capturing the Moments of This Year's Brides

As the shutter clicked and the lens focused, I had the incredible privilege of capturing the love stories of so many remarkable couples this past year. Rob and Alex - A Fusion of Cultures

Rob and Alex, a couple whose journey I witnessed from the early days of my nursing grad program, tied the knot in a Chinese fusion backyard wedding in Utah. Their love story unfolded in the intimate setting of a grandmother's backyard, where custom-made dresses and cultural elements intertwined to create a day as unique as their love. Alex had two dresses, one custom-made and one red to reflect Rob’s Chinese heritage.

One of the most cherished memories was the sweet getting ready moments and heartfelt vows that spoke of a love that had weathered challenges and emerged stronger. The wedding was a fusion not just of cultures but of shared dreams and a commitment to a lifetime of love. As a special touch, guests were sent home with fortune cookies, symbolizing the sweet fortune that awaited the newlyweds.

Rian and Jake - A Simple Utah Affair

Rian and Jake, who’s mom I work with in the NICU, opted for a simple and intimate wedding in Utah. The celebration was low-key, surrounded by family and friends who reveled in the joy of their new life together.

What stood out was the sweetness of their first dance and the homemade treats that added a personal touch to the joy of it all.

I took their engagement photos too, captured against the backdrop of the sand dunes, a place Jake had spent lots of time there growing up with his family.

KR and Sam - A Californian Forest Affair

KR, a dear friend akin to a little sister, celebrated her love story with Sam in a big barn wedding in California. The wedding was surrounded by friends and family, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that mirrored the couple's personalities.

The bridals, captured on the breathtaking coast of California, were a testament to the adventurous spirit of KR and Sam. I remember flying in, straight from the airport, to capture these precious moments.

Nick and Rylee French - A Night of Elegance at Auburn Golf Course, California

Rylee and Nick, a family friend and my brother’s best friend from middle school, celebrated their wedding at the Auburn Golf Course in California. A night ceremony under the starlit sky set the tone for an evening that would be etched in the hearts of all who attended.

Being a family friend, Rylee and Nick's wedding held a special place in my heart. The dance party that ensued and the heartfelt family toasts brought tears of joy to the eyes of everyone present. It was a night of elegance and celebration, where there were so many happy tears that were an absolute delight to witness behind the camera.

Justine and Chris - A Lace & Leather Barn Wedding

Justine, a colleague in the NICU, celebrated her love in a Utah barn wedding that seamlessly blended class, elegance, and country charm. The day was filled with laughter, drinks, and moments spent with children—a true reflection of Justine's nurturing nature.

One of the most unforgettable parts of the day was the karaoke, a surprise hit that brought everyone together in a symphony of shared joy. Justine's wedding was not just a celebration of love but also a reflection of her vibrant personality, creating memories that will be cherished for a lifetime.

The barn wedding was a classy and elegant affair, with a country touch that resonated with the couple's roots. The highlight? Karaoke that stole the show, adding an element of fun and spontaneity to the celebration.

Kenna and Mark - A Redwood Affair with Childhood Roots

Kenna, my friend's childhood best friend from nursing school, celebrated her love with Mark in a Founders Grove wedding. The setting was small and intimate, surrounded by her family and their son, adding an extra layer of magic to the day.

Mark's aunt officiated the ceremony in her hometown, and after the vows, a stroll around another park with giant trees provided a picturesque backdrop for their sweet, deep love.

I so adored capturing the essence of the start of their new life together. The wedding was not just special; it was magical—a celebration of love that had roots in shared childhood memories.

Nicole + Gunner - Northern California High School Sweethearts'

Nicole and I went to high school together. We were never very close, but I grew up with our brothers always playing football together. Fate brought us together to capture her absolutely gorgeous love story and wedding. Her wedding in Northern California was nothing short of spectacular—an ode to the love she and her high school sweetheart shared.

The church ceremony was full with all their loved ones, a congregation that had seen the evolution of their love from the sidelines. The historic Hotel Woodland set the stage for a celebration that echoed with the laughter of friends who had seen them transform from teenagers to soulmates.

And there was so, so much joy in the big party that followed! It was fun and full of happiness about these high school sweethearts, now together forever. And there was such an overflow of fun drinks and happy memories.

Gannon and Annalise - A Redwood Love Story

Gannon and Annalise, who I went to high school with way back when, chose the majestic redwoods as the backdrop for their love story. The AirBnB backyard wedding was small, intimate, and drenched in the vibrant green of the towering redwoods.

The groom's best friend officiated the ceremony, delivering a speech that echoed such precious sentiments of love and friendship. The wedding was a testament to the beauty of simplicity and the intimacy that comes with exchanging vows in the heart of nature.

As I look back on the weddings and brides of this year, I’m so beyond grateful for the privilege of being behind the camera for these beautiful love stories. Each wedding was a unique chapter, each bride a reflection of the diverse beauty of love.
